Catalan School

Hi everyone!
We are students from year 4. We are 9 years old and we are from Catalonia.
From now on, you will be introduced into some identity activities that we have done at our school.
1st/ Our teacher gave us a list of qualities and we worked on some of the meanings because they were new for us.
After that, we chose the ones that described ourselves and we wrote them on a sheet as the pattern above.
As we wanted to show them in our Parents' Day and we wanted to practise oral descriptions, we decided to make framers with them.
Here you have the pics we took:

After that, we could practise the next structures:

  • I am....(the child who spoke was the one in the framer)
  • You are... (the child who spoke was in front of the one who was in the framer)
  • He/she is... (if we talked about a 3rd person)

2nd/ Students worked on their family trees. After that, they designed new self-portraits in which they traced their roots through their parents.
We used a black and white photo for the activity below and we cut into halves. Then, they identified half of it with their mother and half of the same picture with their father.
Note if you visit this page from abroad: the tradition in Catalonia orders that when a baby borns, he/she is called after their parents and receives two surnames, one from the father and the other from the mother.
Have a look.
3rd/
For ending this project, 4th graders made Identity collages and shields. Watch the video below and you will appreciate their excellent job. Hooray for them! They are Star Students!

At the end of the school year children did a self assessment and they could express what was identity for them:
